Showcasing European leadership in advancing Ocean science for sustainable development

🕒 15:00–16:45

The OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Centre (OceanPrediction DCC) is a global initiative established under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). It aims to enhance ocean prediction capabilities worldwide by fostering collaboration and innovation, capacity development and information and knowledge sharing.

Hosted by Mercator Ocean International, the OceanPrediction DCC is also supported by IOC UNESCO, the French government, and the European Union. This event will highlight the crucial role of the OceanPrediction DCC, with a particular focus on its community-building efforts through its regional teams.

Additionally, the event will showcase two OceanPrediction DCCs flagship projects, funded by the European Union, demonstrating concrete activities towards strengthening ocean forecasting capacities and cooperation in Africa (OPERA project) and marine ecosystem monitoring and prediction in Costa Rica (OP4CR project)

Towards a decade digital ecosystem:

the UN Decade Vision 2030

🕒 17:00–17:45

This event will strengthen international partnerships by promoting collaboration among the OceanPrediction DCC, the Ocean Observing DCO, and the Ocean Data Sharing DCO to develop a Decade Digital Ecosystem aligned with the EU priorities and the UN Decade Vision 2030, leveraging the Challenge 8 “Digital representation of the ocean”.

This event will bring together relevant stakeholders from Oceanpredict/Foresea, the Data Sharing DCO, the Ocean Observing DCO, GOOS, DITTO, EU-DTO, and the ECOP Decade programme to discuss challenges, gaps, and ways forward towards the development of the mentioned Ecosystem.

In this context, it will help to identify how the different components of the Ocean Value chain should be interconnected, integrating observations, forecasting services, and downstream applications. This continuum is vital for generating the insights required to address climate change, protect marine ecosystems, promote a sustainable blue economy, and strengthen coastal resilience
