Director
Alex Muñoz is Director of the Vital Oceans Initiative. He has an extensive career as a marine conservation leader in global initiatives as National Geographic Pristine Seas Senior Director for Latin America and Oceana's Vice President in Chile. He was named McCluskey Fellow in Conservation in 2024 by the Yale School of the Environment, the school's premier residential fellowship. As a lecturer at Yale, he designed and taught the university's first course on marine conservation and sustainability. For almost two decades, Alex Muñoz has worked with governments, local communities and civil society, resulting in the designation of the largest marine parks in Latin America. He was named a Yale World Fellow by Yale University in 2019 and is a Board member of Rewilding Chile.
