SeniorField Scientist
Peter is an interdisciplinary marine scientist with expertise in understanding the impacts of anthropogenic stressors on environments, wildlife, and human communities. A highly experienced field biologist, he has a comprehensive understanding of marine wildlife physiology and population monitoring—covering turtles, seabirds, and marine mammals—as well as plastic monitoring and cleanups. He has conducted fieldwork in remote and challenging environments. Recognizing that the global plastics crisis is inherently a people problem requiring collaboration and collective efforts, his research, though grounded in conservation physiology, is conducted in an interdisciplinary manner. He works closely with veterinarians, wildlife carers and managers, and local knowledge holders (including seabird harvesters) to co-produce data. In addition, his other research outputs have focused on policy and large intergovernmental initiatives aimed at minimizing marine debris, preventing pollution, and mitigating other anthropogenic threats.
