Deputy Director General of Strategy

Jean-Marc Daniel is the Deputy Director General for Strategy at Ifremer, France's national institute for ocean science. He is a geoscientist with expertise in structural geology and geomechanical modeling. He earned his PhD in Earth Sciences from the University Pierre and Marie Curie in 1995, focusing on the tectonic evolution of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Daniel began his career at IFP Energies Nouvelles, where he led structural geology research and contributed to the development of the FracaFlow software for simulating fluid flow in fractured reservoirs, co-authoring four patents. In 2015, he joined Ifremer to lead the Department of Physical Resources and Deep-Sea Ecosystems and now oversees the institute’s strategic direction, including initiatives in deep-sea exploration, ocean modeling, and marine renewable energy.
